Solved Vista Recovery Discs

Hello there!

Recently (not that recently) I lost some files in my Windows folder which has caused a bit of instability and an annoying problem with things going into pagefiles a lot (among other things). Unsure how or why it happened (and at such a length of time ago it's too late to revert) I have recently found my computer's Recovery disc for my Vista64bit. Being a newby with these kind of things and wanting to keep everything on my computer (AKA no formatting) I was wondering if there was a way I could use it to repair my OS (thereby reverting it back to the disc format) while keeping everything.
I know that sfc is useful and all that fun stuff, is there a way I can use it with the recovery discs?

(I have another topic but since the title is different and no longer relates to the subject itself I felt it was best to make a new topic)

And here's my specs, courtesy of CPU-Z.

Thanks for the help and if you need any clarifying or more information on something just ask!

Hello glad to hear from you.

Run your sfc to see if it will repair it. This is how.

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/66978-system-files-sfc-command.html

Now first I would do a full updated virus scan with your AV.

Also download and run a full scan with malwarebytes. Heres the link...

Malwarebytes

This way you can rule out any kind of problems first, then run your sfc and if you find any errors then run it 3 more times.

1. Click start...
2. in the search box type CMD...
3. When your popup comes up at the top of the list you will see CMD.exe...
4. Right click on the cmd.exe and run as administrator...
5. When the command box appears then type sfc /scannow notice there is a space between the sfc and the forward slash...

Thanks for the response!
I have already run sfc many times in hopes that I'll be able to sit back and have my problems resolved.
However, this isn't the case :(
Following the link you gave me, however, has lead me to this page
Would it be wise to do this? The vista version I have on DVD is one the first versions released.
-Cheers

BTW, I don't know how you managed to get onto the 'extract files etc. page.
Having checked the two links in the post, they went straight to the intended destinations!?
Strange!

The problem I've noticed is that nvscve.exe (something along those lines) gives a "...process in an unusual way" error. I'll check it tomorrow, seeing as (when googling the .exe) it's a helper for the NVIDIA card I have.
I'll try and run sfc /scannow in safemode tomorrow afternoon (seeing as I wont be home much and I will be sleeping soon)
And I'll also try a clean boot right after the safemode attempt.
I'll post back tomorrow after these attempts, though I wont know if the pagefile problem is fixed for several days after since it normally happens like so:
-Computer on for awhile
-Lots of memory being stored in pagefiles
-1 Gig in pagefiles, "Disk" in Resource Monitor is at full use
-Memory has 100 hardfaults/sec

P.S. The Link I gave was a link on the page he linked about sfc. I was just curious if "extract" stuff could work if these attempts don't.

Hello
It seems upon doing sfc /scannow in safemode that when I start up I get a bluescreen.
It does the little bar thing on the bottom, screen goes black and it shows this "14/69 - STUFF" thing, 14 being something about the desktop
I feel like this would all end up working best if I format seeing as there's an issue with ProgramData and all that fun stuff.
Also note that all the safemodes work and I'm currently on Safemood w/ networking. I'm going to transfer all my important information into my 180 gig iPod (54 gigs are still free, can easily fill that with stuff I need!)
If anyone knows of a way where I can just "reinstall" Vista64bit into the Recovery CD version (links have told me you need to 'upgrade' to the CDs) please tell me while I transfer stuff
-Cheers and Thanks!

I think a reset will be best. There are already issues with ProgramData and to fix the issues that are already on here will take longer and a deeper understanding then it would be just to format everything and download everything I need.
I already have Recovery CDs
Thanks for the help though
Have a good one!
