Vista PPPoE problem

Hi, first time poster...just found this place while searching for help. Actually found several other posts with a similar problem but with no answers heh!

My problem is this. We have a wireless network setup in my house. I however am connected directly to the router with an ethernet cable. This was fine until recently when I was having a latency problem and RoadRunner had me bypass the modem to connect directly to the modem so they can make sure my router wasn't the problem. After that, I plugged the ethernet cable back into the router and now I keep getting prompted for a username and password for the PPPoE stuff.

My problem isn't connecting to the internet, I'm able to do that. But randomly, and it truely is random because sometimes it pops up and sometimes it doesn't on the same website, this PPPoE username/pass will pop up and sometimes if I hit cancel I'm able to load the page like normal and continue on. Other times when I hit cancel it does not load the page and I have to wait until later to try and load it again.

The internet is broadband and from my reading should not require PPPoE or a username/password.

Hopefully I've provided enough info, I'm not very techy and am not the one who setup the network. Thanks for any help

I can't really help but the PPPoE User name/password sounds as if it's something to do with the router.

In the set up for my router it uses PPPoA there is a user name/password but that is all tied in with my router communicating with my ISP, I'm on ADSL. I'm also connected via Ethernet cable with my other two computers connecting via wireless. ;)

Go into "Network Connections" and delete the broadband connection that uses PPPoE. That should leave you the wireless connection and all should work fine.

The wireless connection doesn't even show up as a choice though. But, so far today...no username/password popup yet so maybe magic came in and fixed it :P

Keep us informed.

It sounds like you have 2 connections configured.

You are correct that the PPoE settings are stored in your router so you will not need a password.
