vista(not responding) -2 anti-viruses??

Hello

basically my computer keeps freezing every now and then and a transparent screen comes up and at the top left of screen it says (not responding).

I read somewhere it happens because of two anti-virus programmes on the computer??

Can anyone shed any truth on this., I actually read it on the microsoft problems and answers page somewhere.

If so - I have Windows Defender and AVG antivirus. I wondered which i should get rid off.?

WD is not an antivirus, it is an antispyware program.

How much RAM memory do you have? It sounds like you're pushing the limit. You can also check to make sure your Page File is enabled. Right-click on Computer and select Properties. Advanced System Settings > continue (UAC) > Advanced > Performance Settings > Advanced. In the Virtual Memory box you'll see the total paging file size.

While having two AV programs can cause a conflict, it's nowhere near the only reason you can have non responding programs.
Whats needed here is the names of the programs that stop responding and any information from the Event Viewer regarding them.

Programs can stop responding for many reasons, lack of available resources, continuous clicks on a slow response to the first click on something, or just a corrupted part of the installation files...literally dozens of reasons for this happening. Many times if you try to read a CD or DVD with a bad block, that will freeze things up and cause non responding programs so it can also be something other than the program itself that causes it to stop responding.
Whatever you can tell us about what you're doing when it happens, what's open and what the Event Viewer logs say about this can help narrow the culprit down...possibly.

Hit the Start button, and in the search bar at the bottom type event....

It should be the only one to show up.

BTW, a tip - you can find almost *all* of your programs like this.

well basically it happens on most things that i do on the computer.


opening mozzilla thunderbird, opening an email, windows explorer, control panel option, following links from a webpage, opening more than one internet home page.

There are lots of situations when it happens, it is very random and tempremental. It might happen a few times , then not at all for a few hours.

It is either very quick and returns to normal, or it may freeze for up to 15 seconds, these are also randon.

Ive opened events logger and dont have a clue what im supposed to be looking at or what info I should be providing.?

Any advice on the above comments.

well i have the same problem, sometimes Excel freezes, sometimes Outlook for no reason and not all the time. I never use (in general) more then 60% of the memory so it is not the memory. Pagefile is set to 300 MB in order that, if necessary, a dumpfile can be created. So far there is no indication that the pagefile is used since the pagefile can go up to 1000kb (that way i can see if pagefile needs expansion).

I have 4 gb of memory, but 8 gb would be best.

This is the fault of Vista, nothing else (as always). Vista consumes too much memory, NOT USED and to free memory one has to shutdown and restart (hate that).

Bottom line.....way too much bugs in Vista in general.

Vistax64 works not only in the 64-bit condition, also Office (and Outlook) still work in 32 bit environment.

It would be nicer if everything works x64 of course.....Maybe next century?

What i do not get is: how can one be one of the richest people in the world and deliver software, never good enough.

You must admit, the last 12 months there where more then enough patches to fix "this and that".
