Vista Not Reading Network Adaptor

Hello. I'm new to the site, and I'm not sure if this is the right place to post about this, so please just delete my post if it is not, etc. But. . .

I just bought a copy of "Windows Vista Home Premium" Yesterday. Went home, and clean Installed it. (Yes, i wiped my data before hand. Backed up all my drivers, etc.) Things were going really well, until I try to connect to the internet and no dice. So I thought, ‘hey ok, I’ll just go throw my back up CD in, update the drivers.’ No dice. So I called around. I was told to plug my internet directly into my PC tower, etc etc. And nothing. They didn't know what to do, as usual, so I thought I would try to reset my modem and reinstall my internet. I have Verizon DSL. When I started the installation, I was told that My computer didn't have an Ethernet card, or whatever, and to try to connect using a USB cable. I know that whatever is up with my computer, can't be extremely bad. This is ridiculous really. Before I wiped my hard drive, about Six hours before installing vista, everything worked. My internet ran on this computer, and the two laptops that are in the household are also STILL running with internet connection now. I can't find any drivers that are actually compatible with vista. And I’m sick of looking for a stupid Internet card model number on the inside of my tower. I actually had to use a little mirror to find the numbers because the card was that close to the side of the tower. But what I managed to find was "537epg". I try to look that up. Thought I finally hit gold, and found out that this download had been deleted from the manufactures database.

If anyone has any idea on how to fix this stuff, I would really appreciate a break from this. I can’t ever just install something on a clean slate.

Hi Vreyja

1. What OS was you running before New Vista?
2. Is your computer a Custom Build or a Pack computer?
3. Have you looked to see if adapter is present in Device Manager, and if so have you right clicked on the adapter and clicked update driver?

Hello Trax1963.

-I was running Windows XP before the new Vista.
-It is a custom build.
-Yes I have. There is not any present. There isnt even a tab for network adaptors, like there usually would be.

Thank you for your time :)

I think you found "537epg" was moderm adaptor not Ethernet cards (more different)... check your motherboard build in ethernet and find out ultilities dish of motherboard or download from Intel networking driver...good luck.

If your internet was there before you started then your internet is still there! Put the setup of modem and all cables back exactly as they were before.

Some things don't work from Xp to Vista. I think the problem is you have not installed the correct adaptor. You were running Xp before and changed to Vista you will need a different adaptor for it. Check with Manufacturer for correct adaptor.

Yeah I was starting to think that myself. I'll go to Bestbuy tomorrow, see what they have. Thanks everyone for your time. Starting to already regret getting Vista. Sigh. Tore my tower up again last night, couldn't find any model number. Friend said it is usually on a sticker and someone removed it before they sent it to me. I dunno, I give up lol.

When you have had Vista for 6 months then tell us it's a load of ****, not now when your just starting on it. I've had it for a year and wouldn't even contemplate having anything of lower standard again including Xp. The Vista format has been knocked too much by people who don't or have not used it, and or, have only had it for a short period of time. Once you get it how it works, then you really enjoy it...No need for Windows 7 as it's an upgrade from Vista...
