Vista Network Access Problems

I recently upgraded from xp to Vista. Now I am having problems with my network access. It keeps dropping from local & internet, to local, to no connection at all. There is no problem with my internet connection or cables, etc.
I know that this is a problem in Vista, but I do not know how to fix it. This is driving me crazy. Please someone help me with this problem!!!
In case you need to know, my internet connection is broadband, and my os is Vista Home Premium. Thanks in advance.

I'm on a broadband connection through my cable company, suddenlink. I have a 3MB connection. The problem only takes seconds to go from local & internet, to local, to no connection, then back to local & internet. Sometimes it happens every minute. Sometimes it will go for hours without doing it. I've tried the same ethernet cord hooked up to my ps3 and it works fine. Like I said before I had no problem when I was running xp. Any advice is appreciated.

Hmm, not sure but it sort of sounds like your computer is trying to connect to the same network through two devices at once.

Do you have a wireless card and have configured that to connect to a wireless network also?
Or maybe its an IP address conflict, I'm guessing you are using a router. Restart it so that it can reassign IP addresses.

These are really shots in the dark. Sorry, but really there is not a lot of information, plus I'm not an expert in networking so I'm not the best person to ask. But nobody else is answering you so I thought I'd throw this out there.

I have the same or a similar problem. My PC randomly sees itself as disconnected from the internet. Sometimes it stays on for hours, other times it goes off everty 2 mins. I made a program to reconnect the network if it sees that the internet isn't on. You can also make a batch file if you want: if you disconnect and reconnect to the wireless network the internet status is refreshed.

The batch code is:
"start netsh wlan connect name=xxxxxx"
xxxxxx being you network name, in my case "wlan-ap".

Hope this helps

If anyone knows, is their a way in vista to determine the status of your network (Local/Local and Internet) in any other way besides the obvious visual aspect? A way for a program to check for you?

Doubt there'll be any response, but please
Thanks :D
