I've read far far too many threads at countless websites and somehow have not come across the solution to my problem, which i believe is probably right beneath my nose. Anyway, here goes.
A while back i connected my dell/vista run laptop to my xbox through my home network (netgear router) and set up the windows media center extender, which was easy as pie and worked like a dream. Well, i didn't use it much for a couple months and suddenly when i try it, it doesn't work and prompts me to re-input the 8 digit code and go back through the fairly simple setup. Ok, no biggie. Only, this time it continually gives me a configuration error after the first 2 check marks are complete in the process. "An error occured while configuring extender settings"..."power down, restart and try again" etc...
I have vista 32 bit, mcafee 8.1 and i don't use windows firewall. I have gone through all network and sharing settings as well as services, and of course have tried to disable all firewalls just to see if it would work then, and alas, it did not. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the recent xbox live update, or if it's a mcafee issue or just some other setting i overlooked. Help would be greatly appreciated.
