Vista Log on Password

Hi i'm new here, so don't know if i'm in the right place, sorry!. My mate has asked me to look at his acer laptop with a genuine Vista home basic package. His boy has changed his password and can't remember to what so he can't log on. Is there any way he can get on to change the password back? i sort of recall being able to do it via safe mode booting with xp but am totally lost with vista? any help would be appreciated thanks.
