Vista HP 64 to Vista Ultimate 64 - HELP
Hey Everyone,
Need some Assistance! I have just purchased the HP m9250F, which comes pre-loaded with Vist HP 64-Bit. I have purchased the Vista Ultimate Upgrade Retail Version.. I have completed ALL updates available for Vista HP. When I tried to Upgrade HP to Ultimate, it would NOT allow me to Upgrade
, only to Clean (Not sure if thats the name) install, Upgrade disabled. It suggested that I use a more up to date version and than retry the Upgrade. Not positive if those are the exact words, but 90% correct. What doesn't make sense is that ALL of the updates have been completed and none are pending. So, whats up and how do I fix it? Really don;t want to do a Clean Install, only because I don't know what will or won't work if it done.Awaiting HELP!

Hi Joey,
Did you run the Ultimate DVD installation from within the current HP Vista? It will need to be ran from within the old Vista for a upgrade.
If you decide to go ahead and do a clean install with your upgrade version of Ultimate, then you will need to follow the procedure in this tutorial to do so. It's just a little more involved than a full Vista version.

Hope this helps you,

Hey Shawn,
My PC came with Vista HP 64-bit (With SP1). Last night I did all of the upgrades for Vista HP. My Retail version of Ultimate is not SP1. YES I did run the Upgrade from the Vista HP SP1 Desktop.
Could the SP1 be an issue?
Joey
I would say yes. The SP1 changes the version number of Vista to a newer one than even the better version of Ultimate. You will need to uninstall the SP1 or do a clean install of Ultimate. I would recommend a clean install. It will be easier and less likely to have problems.

Found out the PROBLEM and a SOLUTION:
PROBLEM: SP1! The new PC came preloaded with Vista HP SP1 (NO D/L). My retail version of Vista Ultimate doesn't have SP1 (Made before SP1 time).
SOLUTION: Go to
Windows Vista Alternate Media and place your order for Vista Ultimate SP1! Only pay for S&H..
And that takes care of that! Thanks to Colin over at

Joey
That would work too.
Thank you for the feedback Joey. I'm glad to hear you found a solution that will work for you.

Look for this folder C:\SWSETUP. Read the (cvs file, I think) in each folder to find out what each item is. I'm not on Vista at present time.
