The stuck sound loop *could be* caused by your sound driver. Have you got the most recent version?

I'm assuming that the 'little thingy' your refering to is the green loading bar? It sounds like it's having trouble initalizing something. Does it pause / freeze if you try booting in safe mode?

Smarte, I dont think it is caused by the sound card in this case. I have had the same thing happen to me, with no sound card installed. I think it is the system freezing, and it causes the sound to loop. Not entirely sure why.

Anyways, Kafhe welcome to the forums.
As for your problem, try a Repair of Vista, hopefully that will iron out the startup kinks, and hopefully your freezing bug.

If not, let us know what does happen, and we will work with you to solve it.

Sorry to hear you are having random freezing problem. This could be anything from software to hardware problem. If update BIOS and what smarteyeball's suggestions wouldn't help. So here are a few thing I would try start from something simple.

First, check to see if all components and connections are seat and secure especially the rams and the SATA connections. Shake and wiggle, disconnect and reconnect the SATA connection at the HDD to make sure it is secure. Replace them with aftermarket ones if you haven't done so. This is a commonly easily overlook problem for random freezing.

If not helping, run a couple of runs of mentest and chkdsk to see what happen.

Next, you can run the unit with minimal components. Such that you might use one stick of ram, no board gpu and sound card. Then reinstall them one by one.

If all the above check passed and problem persist, backup you data and clean reinstall Vista.

Great suggestions, that can help a lot. Remember to go barebones as much as possible here; leaving in a sound card can still cause the problem.

Random freezing is a Ram problem, either improper settings or bad Ram. If your system was once stable and now it's freezing up most likely you had some Ram go bad on you. Easily fixed by installing new Ram. I think it's important to point out that Memtest often fails to show errors on Ram that is known to be bad. Sometimes you need to go by the symptoms. Random freezing on a previously stable system is almost always a Ram problem.

It's best to use both the Windows version of Memtest86 and the boot CD version also. Prime blend will also help you sniff out a Ram problem. Memtest for windows and Prime blend will both freeze up if you have a Ram problem.

Have you tried a diagnostic startup? I would do this first before anything else. If the problem doesn't occur under these conditions, then it's likely something in your startup that's causing the problem.

Start > type msconfig in the search box, hit enter and the select "diagnostic startup" on the general tab and reboot.
