Vista Freezing, No Sound working at all

Hi all,
having no success with vista at all. It randomly freezes after a few minutes, even when just sitting on the desktop. Keyboard and mouse do not work when this happens. It has done this everytime i have turned it on. Have all up to date drivers and latest bios.

The sound was working fine, but turned it on yesterday morning and now it has stopped working. When playing music, the equaliser when you left click on the sound icon in the tray shows activity, but nothing out of the speaker. Have tried reinstalling the driver but had no success, and also using different speakers.

Any help appreciated
Tim

dw guys, think ive solved my issues but will have to confirm later.

sound - turns out my sound driver wasnt the most up to date, so updated it,

freezing - i ran the 'memory diagnostics tool' and it said there was a hardware error... by playing around with the 2 RAM sticks i found that one of them is faulty and all the slots on the motherboard work fine. been running the beast with just one stick (its semi-struggling) and had no freezing. fingers crossed that that was the problem and i can claim warranty on the faulty one!

My Computer

i had the same problem when i first installed vistas, screen freezing every few minutes and having to restart to get out of the problem. I finally solved the problem by resetting default in bios everything has worked ok since, so if anyone else has this problem you could also try that.

Kind of weird...not a real common problem with vista, but i guess it occurs..try messing with the settings, and if all fails, repartition your HDD

My Computer

i had vistas X32 and vistas X64 on the same hard drive, when i installed X64 it was giving me problems with the screen freezing, but when i rebooted X32 it was also having problems, i uninstalled X64 and the problems on the X32 stopped. i reinstalled X64 on my other hard drive that had windows xp X32 installed on, i still had the problem with vistas X64 screen freezing but at least it didn't cause any problem with the other operating systems. my computer was overclocked in bios so i reset and after that i haven't had any problems with x64 and like it so much that i deleted all the other operating systems. though now i am not sure about overclocking yet. I don't know what the problem was because i didn't think that one operating system could effect another.

Ive had my system built for me, as far as im aware its all standard set up but im having the same problem. Ill try resetting to default in bios next time it hangs.
