Vista is taking a lot of time to load shortcut icons and file icons.. Why is this happening? My laptop is 1 month old

Also my laptop is hanging every minute or so for 1 sec

dunno if this will help but I found errors worth reporting from the Event Viewer:

First, have you been using reg cleaners to try and improve performance? these can cause Windows corruption.

Your problem(s) may be a result of Errors on the Drive, and fragmentation.
You may want to update your (SATA?)/RAID controller, and BIOS firmware if available. Check Windows updates for applicable drivers/updates. Keep going back untill no updates are available for your system.
Another thing, if applicable, is removing Crapware that came pre-installed, and any startup programs not necessary.

Try this to also improve performance and speed:

I always defrag my drive.. I haven't ran a disk check in a while and I'm going to check for new drivers..
I have removed everything crappy from my laptop so this isn't the problem...

Is the hard drive speed reduced if it is more full?

default defrag in Vista leaves alot of fragmented files behind- try a full defrag through Administrator:command prompt Defrag c: -w
a fragmented/error strewn drive will severly impact performance; while Corruption may result in a non-bootable system, and loss of Data (so backup).

Check your drive for file system errors and bad sectors

Your problems may also be the result of Corrupted drivers, and/or Windows itself either due to malware or Registry Cleaners-If that is the case only a reinstall/restore may fix your problems.
Again I suggest:http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/165576-how-make-vista-more-responsive-faster.html?filter as this will determine if you have drive corruption, and scan here for malware:http://www.vistax64.com/system-security/162362-antivirus-scanners-internet-security-tools.html scan will multiple online scanners, as not every antivirus will catch everything.

I suggest the following online scannners:
Eset NOD32
Kaspersky
Symantec Norton

and Installing Avira (If using free antivirus)

For nore info on the best performing Antimalware programs , and their performance in Lab testing against current malware infections/threats see:http://www.vistax64.com/system-security/172321-vista-sp1-antivirus-performance.html
