Vista doesn't sleep or hibernate when music is playing?

Hi,

I'm using Vista as carpc operating system. My problem is that Vista doesn't sleep/hibernate when music is playing. I have set pc to hibernate after one minute when powerchord is not plugged. That is what it is suppose to do. Now my Vista thinks that "I'm playing music, so I don't go to hibernate-mode". Few guys have said that it should hibernate even if playing music, few guys says that computer shouldn't hibernate cause it's in use.
Is there way to make computer hibernate when music/videos is on?

I have never seen a computer go into either mode with active processes. Also, is the device USB? If USB, did you safely remove it before unplugging it? Try it, Vista will think its still attached but not working right.

Hi, I have tested this in 3 Vista computers now, and it doesn't matter if there's usb-devices plugged in. Pc just won't hibernate/sleep. There is no other devices or programs running. It just won't work when music is playing. This is weird!!!

Hi Jantsa,

Welcome to Vista Forums.

Try this to see if it will help you in the Power Options window:

1. Under Multimedia settings and When sharing media, set it to Allow the computer to sleep.

See Step Two in this tutorial for how if needed.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Thanks, great forum :)

I did all those things and tested many other.. no results... even turning laptop's panel off didn't work when music is playing. I set it power off in minute, and hibernate after two minute..
When I paused music, it worked..
I removed every device from wake up, if it got something to do with this problem..but that didn't help either...
This is.... very..... annoying... and I **************** * * ** , that's about it..

Hello Jantsa,

The laptop will not sleep or hibernate while playing music because its doing just that, Playing Music.

Stop the Media Player program and it will sleep and hibernate successfully.

even turning laptop's panel off didn't work when music is playing.

I have such system with vista as OS and when i want to hibernate i just close the lid.
I use WMP and when the lid is opened WMP shows where it stopped and it is easy to resume a film for example.

I did not matter to try the "automatic" hibernate function as the system runs on the car battery.

One thing to try would be maybe to configure the battery to give alarm to the system when the level is 99% for example so the hibernation is forced even when an application is running. I did not try but don't see why it could not work.
I sait 99% but it has to be less i think, as it can't be higher than the low level action or low battery notification.....

Or, try making another process the foreground process - IOW, either minimize WiMP or else open an explorer window....

I am using WiMP right now to watch the entire Eureka 7 series, and using my Hauppage Remote control to control (remotely, no less) WiMP from my bed while watching this - most times I have no issues, but the other day I noticed that my screen would go blank in 10 minutes (my default for screen saver) - and I realized that I have clicked on a separate app on the second monitor to cause this - as long as my mouse was clicked on WiMP last it will continue to play without putting the machine to sleep / blanking the monitor/ etc.

Oh, and for the record, I have like 6 USB devices plugged in: Printer, scanner, UFD, BlueTooth dongle, MX Revolution receiver *and* my Logitech Laptop Headset - which I use with an extension cord to listen to Audio at my bed. None of them prevent my computer from hibernating when it needs / wants to.
