Hi,

If I open Windows Explorer, it shows the following:

1)Root (see all drives): Drive C: - 46.2 out of 58.9 GB free = 12.7GB
2)Right-click on "Drive C:", "Properties": Used Space = 12.6GB
3)Open Drive C:, mark all files/folders, "Properties": Size = 16.7 GB

Can anybody please explain a) the 100MB difference between 1+2, and b) the unbelievable 4GB difference between 1+3 ???

All hidden and system files are visible. This is a fresh install with only Outlook and a few small system progs.

System: Vista x64 SP1 RC

Try "Folder Sizes". Great app to show you folder sizes etc.

Thanks coolchris,

will try that out.

However, it still would be great to know:

1) Is this just my system or do others have the sam issue? Could anybody please check and confirm ?

2) What is the reason of this discrepancy? What files are counted in folder properties that are not counted in "properties of C:"? Which is the correct number?

It seems to me that's a Vista bug, as I never had this with XP.

Thanks,

Very weird.Ive just started using Vista x64 this week and having some very annoying teething troubles. Checked this out and youre right.

Mouse over ;270gb - 166 free (=104 used)
select all ;65.6gb used (=204 free!)
right click 270gb- 166 gbfree

Thats 38.4 gb gone somewhere lol. Ive check all showing files, swap file isnt there and theres no wierd software glitches. Whats going on ?
