Solved Vista copies files when I want to move them

Whenever I try to move any file or folder to another place other than the recycle bin, the file is copied, making me have to delete the original. I'm not sure what is causing this, so I hoped I could get some help here.

Hello Ramsey, and welcome to Vista Forums.

You would want to use Cut and Paste instead to move the file. You might also be interested in the tutorial below. It will add Copy to Folder and Move to Folder to the context menu to make this a lot easier for you do.

Hm, I guess I didn't mention that this happens when I try to drag the actual file/folder somewhere else. It's a bit of a hassle to have to delete the original every time when trying to simply move something.

I have also downloaded the Copy to Folder and Move to Folder files already and they are helpful, but I'm trying to remedy the problem of files copying when I drag them.

Vista didn't do this before, so I'm not sure what is causing the problem. Thanks for the help though.

It really depends on the file and location of the file, and to where you are dragging it to on what the end result will be for it to be copied or moved. This link will help explain in more detail though on the differences.

Wow, I never realized Vista differentiated between the places you actually move the file/folder. So I guess I never really had a problem at all. Thanks for the useful information, I'll remember to hold shift next time.
