Vista and short cut keys

I am not sure whether this is the correct forum for this query.

I have a HP Pavilion TX1340 laptop running Vista Home Premium and in general it is working OK.

However just recently I have found that short cuts such as ctrl/C and ctrl/V no longer work and just result in the letters "c" and "v" appearing in the text.

Is this a Vista problem or a laptop problem and what is the solution?

It's most definitely not a *vista* problem - I use both copy and paste KB shortcuts hourly, heck, usually once every 3-5 minutes because I keep posting things like URLs here in posts....

I'd read your documentation on your laptop - you may have inadvertently enabled a Function key that is overriding the CTRL key....

I obviously did not make myself clear.

I appreciate that it is not a fundamental fault with Vista as I have used these many times previously my own two Vista laptops and can still do so on my other Vista laptop.

The question I should have asked is:

Have I disabled these keys by some means unknown to me in Vista or is it something I have done with the laptop?

Hi Oldun,

Laptops have a FN key that allows for extra functions on smaller keyboards found on laptops, As JohnGalt suggested check your laptop book and keyboard for an FN lock key or another button that may be over-riding your ctrl key
