Lots of ppl dual boot Vista and a linux distro. My personal prefernce is ubuntu. If you dont want to dual boot ubuntu portable will run in a vista window almost like any other application.

Let me know which way you want to go

Ubuntu is really great. It's probably a bit more user-friendly than some of the other linux distributions too.

If you want to try it out, I'd suggest installing it via Wubi: Wubi - Ubuntu Installer for Windows

That way, it's easy to take off if you find you don't like it.

If you do like it, then I'd recommend installing Ubuntu normally from a CD on a separate partition.

Good luck.

I know that many people cannot live w/o 5 cups of UBUNTU. Try DreamLinux 3.5. You'll dump Windowz 4ever.

For 337 bucks at fry's in plano, I can't complain too much. I is a blessing indeed. This will be not only my first lappy, but my very last too. I simply prefer my server.

Ubuntu should recognize your vista partiton and offer to shrink it. Backup everything up else, in case anything breaks. Use ImgBurn to download the .iso to a blank cd, stick it in the drive and reboot. You may have to adjust BIOS options to enable booting from cd, but it should work.
