Vista 64bit &rar files

Running Vista Home Premium 64bit (came on laptop). Every time I try downloading rar file it appears to download ok but does NOT put it where I direct it to. When I do finally locate a reference to where it went, there is nothing in the file. This is driving me bats! Please help.

do you have winrar installed?

also where are you trying to download it to?

if you are using IE it automatically downloads them to c:\users\username\downloads

this sounds like a UAC problem and permissions. install this Add "Take Ownership" to Explorer Right-Click Menu in Vista :: the How-To Geek and take ownership of the place you want to download the file too and see if that works
