(SOLVED) Vista 64bit causing network wide connectivity problems?

Ever since I added my 64bit Vista system to my home network, I have been experiencing intermittent connectivity problems on ALL of my network computers. Vista shows "Local Only". Sometimes, it shows that I have Local and Internet, but webpages don't actually load

Here's the network map:

wall -> zoom dsl modem -> Linksys WRTU54G router -> computers

• Windows XP 32bit connected to Linksys via wireless.
• Mac OS X connected to Linksys via wireless.
• (New) Vista 64bit connected to Linksys via wired connection.

Steps taken to resolve the problem:
1) I've set the Linxus router to assign a static ip to each computer's MAC address.
2) Installed SP2 on Vista machine.
3) Set Vista machine network card Speed & Duplex from Auto Negotiate to 100mbps full duplex.
4) Set power settings for network card to never "go down".
5) Reset Windsock
6) Disabled Windows Firewall
7) Disabled most Firewall functions in Macafee
6) Power cycled router and modem several times.
7) Confirmed with ISP that it is NOT an ISP problem.
8) Uninstalled McAfee. Not a Fix
9) Tried wired connection directly to the modem.

You say it's fixed after removing McAfee, I think you figured out your own problem. Make sure you have a 64 bit copy of it running on your machine if you insist on using it.

It "seemed" to be a fix. But about 20min ago, the problem started up again...

Have you tried plugging a machine directly into the router and seeing if the problems persist? If that clears it up, your router is causing network issues.

Yeah, the 64bit Vista machine has a wired connection to the router. It always has. I have also tried a wired connection directly between the Vista machine and the zoom adsl x5 modem... That, didn't work either.

Nevertheless, I am starting to think it is, indeed, a modem / router problem. The modem I have does not have 64bit support drivers OR firmware. I didn't think that would be a big deal since I've read that you can go around it by adjusting the Link Speed

Question: I need the Linksys modem because it makes my T-Mobile land line possible (it has a port for a sim card). BUT, what if I were to buy a modem/router combo that has 64bit support and then had a wired connection between my Vista machine and this new 64bit supported modem/router. Then, i could just plug my old Linksys router into this new device and use it as a dedicated "land-Line" router.

Think that would work??

Just needed a new dsl modem / router.

Nevertheless, I know that there is a common "Local Only" problem with x64 vista. For people who do have new network hardware and are still having problems, just refer to the steps I've taken to resolve my problem (listed above). One of those should contain a fix.

I meant to say modem, in either case you're working and I've learned to proofread posts I make at 0230. Glad you've resolved your problem :D

As far as the local connection issue, I wouldn't say this is limited or perhaps even related to x64 hardware, I'd say its a vista issue. Reason being is we've had DHCP issues in our home station due to incompatibility between our switches and vista's dhcp broadcast settings. We fixed it via registry

Value name: DhcpConnEnableBcastFlagToggle
Value type: REG_DWORD
Value data: 1

Value name: DhcpConnForceBroadcastFlag

Not sure why vista has this on by default, you would think toggle would be on as it is the "safer" value.

Good day, i have been having similar problems and was glad to see that i was not alone. i have seen your solution but as i tried to edit the registry setting i did not see this value under the area you stated:
Value name: DhcpConnEnableBcastFlagToggle
Value type: REG_DWORD
Value data: 1

however the other value was present. i however found
Value name: DhcpConnForceBroadcastFlag
Value type: REG_DWORD
Value data: 0

and did find
EnableDHCP Reg_dword (1)

is this the same?

also, how do i know my GUID?
