Vista + 4Gb of memory.

Anyone upgraded on vista ultimate x64 from 2gb to 4gb of memory, whats the performance boost? id reckon quite good, but how good really? i play a lot of games..

I let a big "Best" store do it.
It only cost me 40 installation and
the price of the RAM.
I didn't have to bother with it.
Besides I understand some sticks
come to you bad, and you have to return them.
A lot of trouble to me. When I got my
machine back it was all set up and
ready to run !!!

But make sure you buy exactly the same make and model RAM you already have installed.

As long as you don't care what it does to your WEI, overall it will decrease paging to your hard drives, which is always a good thing. In most cases, your WEI will go down, though.

I've just about 30 minutes ago or so completed the construction of my new AMD Phenom 9600 Quad, and I installed 4GB DDR2-800 (2x2GB Modules). I can confidently say (from experience with my old Athlon 4800 Dual), that 4GB ram on the system does make a big difference in games performance.

On a side note, my new computer, shows the full 4GB available, and I haven't even installed SP1 yet! I want to first run Futuremark Vantage so that I can compare stats between Vista and Vista SP1..

The way RAM works, the fewer addresses available, the faster it is. If I have 4GB using 2 slots running at 4-4-4-12-2T@800 I may get a 5.9. If I install 4GB more (using 2 more slots), I may have to run 5-5-5-15-2T@800 to get a stable rig and I may get a 5.4. There are other considerations to keep in mind (chipset, FSB, cheap RAM to name a few) but in any case more RAM is a good thing if you can use it.

I had a A8N32-Deluxe\AMD X2 4800+ with 2GB of Corsair 3500LL running 2-2-2-5-1T@433 and it gave me a 5.9. Installed 2GB more (filling all 4 slots) and had to run 2-2-2-5-2T@400. WEI went down to 5.0. But overall the system was faster.

Run a XFX 780i\Intel Q6600 with 8GB OCZ 800 now. System is a screamer but RAM score is 5.3.
