Solved Vista 32 bit or Vista 64 bit

Hi all,
i am getting a new laptop and it comes with 4GB ram and I am given the option to select either Vista 32 bit or Vista 64bit OS. Is it recommended to go for 64bit vista to use tat extra 800mb ram or i should stick with 32bit vista for better compatibility?

Also, will i be able to run 32bit apps in 64bit vista? Thanks alot

Hello Mahojazz, and welcome to Vista Forums.

If you have 64-bit drivers available for all of your devices, then you should be fine since most 32-bit apps will run just fine in 64-bit Vista. The only exceptions are usually utility programs. Double check to make sure that your apps support 64-bit (x64) first though.

Using x64, and so far the only casualty has been the Google Sidebar (gagdets). The Vista Sidebar works just fine in it's stead. :D

Edit: oh yeah, had to find a new atomic clock utility as well.

i recently made the move to 64 bit and everything works great ive had no problems so far at all

oh, its confirmed, i am getting the new laptop with vsita home premium 64bit. Hope everything works fine. BTW, Mcafee Internet security works in 64bit? I will be installing a couple of 32bits apps as well. Looks like i will be asking more n more questions in the forum. ;-)

Yes, McAfee Internet Security will work on the 64-bit Vista.
