Visita issues allowing ICMP and other inbound requests

I have a Windows Vista X64 and a few running XP connected in the same network. I can ping from Vista Workstation to XP, file and print sharehttp://www.geek.com/forums/topic/issue-with-xp-pingingvncprint-share-with-vista#, vnc, etc.. but not the other way. When I Ping from XP to Vista I get a Requested Time Out, either by IP or host name. Turned off both firewalls and even ensured all necessary ports opened on McAfee, so I know not a fiirewall issue. This was working before, not sure if Vista messed me up again... and did some update which I need to modify the RegEdit but now sure. Been bugging me for a while and I just can't seem to find a fix. Any help is much appreciated. I know there is something on the Vista blocking request inbound but I just can't seem to figure it out.

The problem might be that to discover information about devices, Windows Vista uses a new protocol, called Link Layer Topology Discovery. LLTD is built into any Windows Vista PC, which is why the Vista computers show up. However, LLTD IS NOT built into Windows XP, which is why Vista machines may not show up properly, or not be "there" at all on the XP machine.

You might can fix the problem by downloading and installing the Layer Topology Discovery Responder for XP from Microsoft here...

Install it on the XP computers and your Windows XP PC will show the Vista computers. This may/may not fix your problem but from my expierience, and the information you provided, this is the solution I come up with off the top of my head.

Thank you for the reply, I had through of it being a LLTP issue but I thought that would affect Vista not seeing the XP machine, which doesn't seem to be the case, its the opposite the XP PC cannot see Vista, so will definitely try it but wasn't sure this would be the fix. Thank you!
