Hi guys i m in a serious problem here. My antivirus is turned off and i cant turn it on. I m unable to update windows. When i click on malwarebytes, UAC comes up but when i click Continue, it wont come up. I assume that its a virus but i scanned my system from Defender and NOD32 and the results are ok. I dont understand what's going on.

Hi Dinesh,

Sounds like a problem with the .exe file association,
you could navigate to this key :

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.exe\UserChoice

and delete it.

Or merge this .reg file

i was able to navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.exe\ but there was no UserChoice. I merge the .reg file. i m downloading spybot again. i will let you know if it works.

You should have this :

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.exe\OpenWithProgids\exefile

with hex value of 0

If not merge this:

You're welcome.:D

I presume you mean the second .reg file worked.

Strange - don't know where that disappeared to .

Might have been removed by something nasty to stop you running malware removers.

Better check with Malwarebytes and SuperAntispyware to be sure.

Well, what happened was i downloaded a file and when i clicked to open it, a black command prompt windows flashed and it disappeared.
Since then whenever i open malwarebytes, a black windows pops up and disappears.
I tried running superantispyware, NOD32, i reinstalled malwarebytes, etc, nothing worked. I also ran HJT and an entry kept coming up even if i delete it. Finally i gave up and reinstalled OS.
What i learned is: Beware from torrents.
