Video card is driving me crazy!

So I have been having a problem with my video card (xfx geforce 9600 gso 768mb) randomly freezing up in games for a while now. I purchased a barebone from tigerdirect.com and had it set up and everything worked great for a little bit, but then it started to randomly freeze up in games. I was thinking that there were some conflicting drivers that were causing the error. I reinstalled vista and it worked OK for a little bit then started again.

I have been looking around everywhere to see if I could find any way to fix the problem. It turns out there are a lot of people with similar problems as mine with the same card. I tried all of the different methods that had been mentioned to help them fix their problems and none of them worked. This has been going on for a few months. It's really weird.

Sometimes it will freeze up completely and other times it will just make my computer lag. It will normally freeze up in games like WoW and old school counter strike, but when I'm playing Dragon Age (which is much more graphically intense) it will just lag from time to time.

I don't think it's overheating and I'm fairly certain it isn't my PSU. Speed fan shows my GPU temps never going above like 65C and that is only in hardcore gaming that it gets that high. There are some temps that are really up there for some reason though. I don't know what they are either. I'll put a screenshot of speedfan in here. My specs are as follows.

Mobo: MSI K9N2 SLI Platinum
CPU: AMD Phenom 9600
GPU: XFX Geforce 9600 GSO (768mb version)
PSU: Ultra LSP 650watt ATX power supply
Network Card: Linksys wmp54gs version 1.1
OS: Vista Home Premium x64

I know that temp1 is my CPU and temp2 is my case temperature because they match up pretty well with what the BIOS tells me. Core I'm going to assume also has to do with my CPU. GPU is obvious, but the others are unknown to me. They are pretty high except for the one that is negative. Does anybody know what they could possibly be?

Phantom readings. Speedfan gets its readings from the sensor chip and reports what the chip is capable of reporting, whether there is an actual sensor for the reading or not instead of filtered through the bios. Just go into Speedfan's config settings and uncheck those readings, and then you won't see them.

Another thing to do while in the config options is to enable the logging feature. That way you will be able to see what the readings were when the freeze up occurs.

Ah, I see. That is helpful.

I have enabled logs. I haven't been playing much lately so I haven't had a chance to see, but I will now because it's starting to really test my patience.

Did you have a different graphics card installed before you put in the 9600..if so what was it and how did you uninstall it?

Its getting old, been upgrading it over the past few years, mainly the ram and the gpu's. Will hold out till some next year before I build another one.
No, I got everything all at once. I bought a barebone and it had everything but the GFX card and a HDD. I bought both of those at the same time though and put it all together.

What kind of Ram do you use and How much do you have?

Are the freeze-ups only when Gaming?

You say you updated to latest drivers but, how did you do this? What versions are you using now?

If only when Gaming, you may have a Ram conflict in your Bios, more so if you use 8 GB's of Ram and have your Bios at Auto or manually set... hard to explain, I'll wait until you answer the questions

I have tried updating it several ways. Through vista's auto update and through nvidia's website. I even make sure to use driver sweeper before each update so there are no fragments left over from the previous ones. Right now I'm using Vista's driver because it seems to cause the problem less frequently.

I have 4gigs of ddr2 800mhz ocz nvidia sli ram. I have run a diagnostic on them both and haven't come up with any problems. I'm interested in hearing about this issue that could be occurring in my BIOS though.
