users manual

re: users manual

A users manual for what, the laptop or the Operating System ?

If the laptop go to the manufacturers home page and look for your model number and that should tell you all about it.

If you want to know about Vista just have a look through the tutorials on this site and that should give you an idea of things plus you can always go to the Start Orb and then Help and Support on the right hand side of the menu that opens. ;)

re: users manual

Thanks Joan. I meant the operating system. I did find where you suggested I go.
The problem I needed help from was caused by the key board on my lap top. I will study the book that came with it to see whaT I did wrong. There are green symbols on the keys as well as the regular letters and I couldn't seem to get the right symbol to work. I shut down the computor and it is working again. It's great to know that there is a forum I can come to for help with the Vista program
though. Thanks again and Merry Christmas to all from snowy Northern Ontario!

Hello DenKeeper...

You must have accidentally pressed the NumLock key. This key enables the numbers and symbols on some keys. Try pressing it and typing, the pressing it again. You'll find that's probably the problem and next time you won't need to restart in order to fix it.

well there's also the Fn key, and the shift key that may alter the keys, but I don't see anyway to have them held down all the time except if they were stuck.
Anyway, glad you have found a solution / workaround.

Glad I was able to help, sorry I can't help with regards your keyboard problem as I don't have a laptop and know nothing about them or their layouts ;)

In case you need to start from start... user manual is indeed, the right start: It is already factory downloaded in your PC: (Always start from Start Button)

Start > Help and support > User Guide > here, start from the top(Hardware > notebook tour, etc...) Further asistance that may be specific to your PC brand (DELL, HP, Gateway, etc) is also in that guide, or in Program list where you can find your brand.

If you are still under guarantee, some brand specific probs are better addresed to your Customer Service Dept. Caveat: those reps are not as smart as FORUM techies and gurus. For other tech probs especially VISTA oriented, post them here.
