Solved USB listed in System Tray

I have never seen this before. Is it correct or is there something wrong? I bought a new computer with Vista Home Premium. The USB ports are showing on the bottom Task Bar (the way it usually shows a Flash Drive when plugged in), with a little computer and a green check. I have not seen this before for USB drives not in use. If you right click it you get the message "Safely Remove Hardware" and if you go further it is called USB Mass Storage Data at Port_#0005.Hub_#0008. This relates to my Drives G,H,I,J. Can someone clarify this?

Are these drive letters for a media card reader by chance?

It's normal for any removable device to be listed in "Safely Remove Hardware" though.

I never had media card readers before, but that must be it. On the front of the computer I have 4 slots for media cards and 2 slots for USB. I didn't realize they are ON even when nothing is plugged into them. This is not the case for USB devices which are only ON when you put something into them.

Yep, that sounds like the media card reader is probably it then.

If you decide to upgrade to Windows 7 in the futute, then Windows 7 has a option that Vista doesn't to hide empty drives like this until used.

I have exactly the same issue on a 2 year old pc

just appeared recently and I have not done anything with memory card readers

also g,h,i,j are usb slots on my pc but nothing is plugged into these slots so what do the port_#0005.hub_#0008 mean

I have upgrade AVG to version 9 around the same time this problem started(1 week ago)

is my pc being hacked into?
