URGENT! My baby (computer) died :(

This is really urgent if someone could help me asap it'd be great. I went to sleep last night with the computer on (Win7 7077) like always and this morning it's still on but none of the usb devices are working, monitor doesn't come back from sleep state but the fans on all the components are still spinning. I tried hard rebooting 3-4 times and still nothing. I let it sit and cool off for a bit and still nothing. Anyone know what the problem could be? I was thinking it was the motherboard but then wouldn't the ethernet light be off if the board wasn't working? The only thing on the computer the has been overclocked is the CPU which I took from 3.0ghz to 3.8ghz and it's been running fine on the stock cooler for the past 6 months almost and then bam it's like this. I don't think it could of been over heating as the temps usually run 30C at idle and 50-60C at full load and the side is off of it. Please help me figure this out I'm running around not knowing what to do because this is my life we're talking about :(

Thanks.

Hello Bryce,

You might see if resetting the BIOS by crossing the CMOS jumper pins briefly, or temporarily unplug the computer and remove the CMOS battery for a few minutes, may help.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Tried that. The people over at SevenForums helped me the best they could. Tried everything they suggested, the CMOS resetting, etc nothing seems to work. I personally think it's either the power supply or mobo/cpu. We'll see what Best Buy thinks since they told me they'd do a free test on it.

I don't know why your machine is not booting, and if I did I'd certainly try to help, but I'd suggest that the next time you really don't want to be overclocking any machine whose continued operation is vitally important to you on a personal or business level. Overclocking is ultimately hardware abuse, no matter how it's rationalised.

I would say perhaps the power cord from the PSU to the mobo is bad or burned.

Got back from Best Buy. The guy is very positive it's a dead motherboard but then I'm wondering would the CPU and all still come on if the motherboard was dead?

I'm calling ASUS now to see what they can do for me.

I suppose it's possible if only part of the motherboard was bad and not dead completely. Did they give you any other specifics than that?

They did not do a very good job of testing it for you if that is all they can say about it.

Do you or a friend have any spare parts laying about that you can use to test to see if any particular component may be the problem? If not, then I would find another place to test your system properly.

I'll talk to my neighbor and see if he can help. I might just go ahead and RMA it anyways with Newegg. Because one of my neighbors says he thinks it's the motherboard as well.

There is a difference between overclocking, and extreme overclocking....

Overclocking would be taking an Core i7 920 to 3.2ghz and overclocking a GTX 285 to FTW Specs from EVGA.....

None of that is "Dangerous" nor is it abusive, considering the same equipment is used in the "Faster stuff" from the factory.... EVGA GTX 285 vs. EVGA GTX 285 SSC edition or FTW Edition...Same exact card, just overclocked from the factory, and at a outrageous price....

And the i7 920...same chip architecture as the 940, get $300 more to have the identical chip overclocked to 2.9ghz? or the i7 965 clocked to 3.2ghz?... again same chip, unlocked multiplier, big whoop :)

Extreme overclocking IMHO is the people running things on nitrogen, and clocking out to 7-8-9ghz for 10 minutes before the CPU internally decides to end itself......
