Solved Upgrade problem

I just joined today after finding this online earlier and have a few questions before I proceed.

My system is the HP M9350f Quad Core AMD
6GB of RAM
750GB HD
Home Premium 64 bIT

I have a Vista anytime upgrade cd but I am downgrading to 32 bit. Using this guide will it keep me from getting the error that I need to install the "nvidia serial ata controller driver"

I also have a copy of Vista that was used by us techs at the now defunct Circuit City that is an enterprise edition.

Is it true I need to remove some of the RAM to complete the install? or is this trial and error?

If I chose to do a dual boot of 32 and 64 bit (if possible) would I still need to uninstall the RAM

The reason for my wishing to to downgrade to 32 bit is I am a web designer and none of my software (dreamweaver, CS4 suite, cuteFTP) will run on 64 bit.

Thanks and if I didn't provide enough info let me know and I will try and update it!

Thank all of you very much, I tried Paint and it worked great, I will check with canon and see if they have a driver yet as for Dreamweaver 8 they are saying to upgrade to CS4 I can only wounder why, maybe $200.00 dollars. Maybe I will find a fix for that too.

CS4 doesn't work on 64 bit either, that's why I am trying to downgrade to 32 bit or set up a dual boot. I wasted too much money on dreamweaver cs4 when it came out and now they have no help for me, Photo shop is the only one that states 64 bit computability

If you want to go back to 32bit you could jump on eBay and usually get Vista Home Basic Upgrade for $40 or so. It will not upgrade over your 64bit though so you would have to format your drive and reinstall everything. I have 4 installations of Home Basic and it works fine for everything I do, as long as you don't have to have Aero.

My Computer

I have tried this 3 times and keep getting the same errors/notations:

1. Upgrade has been disabled
The upgrade cannot be started because are running a 64 bit version of windows and are trying to upgrade to a 32 bit version of windows.
Cancel this and start over. (I need 32 bit for web design reasons)
[You cannot upgrade from a non-staged build to a staged build.]

2nd error
Windows cannot be installed in this disk (C://)
Needs driver for device [NVIDIA nForce Serial ATA Controller]
I have searched everywhere for a 32 bit version of this driver and everyone I download says its compatible when I try to load it from my jump drive.

I have tried every tutorial on this site pertaining to me.

I have an AMD Pnenom Quad Processor
6GB of RAM (4GB removed for install)
Home Premium 64 Bit
HP M9350F

As stated above I own Adobe CS3 and CS4 and dreamweaver will not run from either, CS4 is the trial edition. I am pulling my hair out because I am losing money by not being able to do design work.

Thanks for any guidance you can give me!

Hello CThormton,

You cannot do a upgrade from a 64-bit to a 32-bit OS, or the other way around. You can only do a clean (formatted) install instead. I'm not familiar with how a Anytime Upgrade CD works though. I believe you have to have the previous OS installed first for it work, but it still needs to be a same 32-bit or 64-bit as the previous version.

The driver mentioned should be with your motherboard's chipset drivers. You may need to go to your motherboard's manufacturer's website to download a copy that you can load during the installation of Vista at the point where you select which drive to install Vista on.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Yes I have and still can't get it to working and the techs at adobe are not helping either, everyone is confused. I'd love to stay with 64 bit and keep all my RAM but I am having issues and can't afford to lose scripted pages on some of my stores

Are you uploading directly with dreamweaver? if so have you tested the ftp with filezilla to see if that has the same problem.

I have tested with Filezilla, CuteFTP 8 Pro and a few others that names escape me now. The only way to upload is using my cpanel, which if you are a designer you know that using multiple programs is a PITA.

I have dreamweaver 8 and I have finally figured out everything it takes to get it working on 64bit. It wasn't easy and it took almost a month but it is configured correctly and working fine. I had to upgrade to access 2007, cs3 or cs4 should work fine they came out after vista.
