Updating to Vista X64 SP1

I have a fairly new comp (2 months old) running under X64 and running well.

I had some trouble setting up my Sound Blaster Live but finally managed to get everything going using a file I found on this forum, thank you.

After doing some reading here I find I should be updating to SP1 and that there might be issues with Creative drivers while doing so.

So before I attempt the download and install, I would be grateful for any advice. Like... should I remove my Sound Blaster? Do I need to un-install the creative driver? Can I just disable that piece of hardware in the device manager? Can I leave everything the way it is and attempt the download/install? Or is there something completely different I should be doing to make this the least painful possible.

Looks great except it says:

i cant really see why you would need 2GB of ram just for this operation
imo i think it would be fine to go ahead however i think you should wait a little for someone other than me to respond before you go ahead

It said it supported *up to* 2GB... I have 2x2GB, hence my question.

The person in your link has a Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty card, I have the Sound Blaster Live 5.1... So maybe I'll be ok.

Right now I'm using SBAX_2_12_0001_20(2).exe a file I found on this forum and it does at times cause a problem, a very loud buzzing noise in the speakers.

I am hoping the file you posted in your first link will work for me and I'm planning on giving it a try. Thank you.

Then I'll try updating to SP1 and hope for the best. The whole process will take quite a while since dial-up is the only thing available still where I live.

I installed the new SoundBlaster driver last night and everything sounds great!

I will attempt SP1 tonight... at 45.6Kbs it will probably take most of the night! :D

Hope SP1 likes the new Creative driver and that everything goes well. Thanks for your help.

Windows Update now recognized my need for SP1. It downloaded it and installed it without a problem. It took a while but everything works perfectly!
