Hi,
This is my first post here. I have been trying to use the helpful advice shared by members to fix my problem but have been unsuccessful. So I thought I should be specific and see if anyone here has an idea I haven't tried. Thanks in advance!
First off I use Vista for a laptop computer and I do not have any restore discs (which is my own fault for never burning one):
I had been having some issues installing the security update for Explorer 7 (KB978207). Each time I attempted to install it during the restart it would read "configuring updates 1 of 3" and have a percentage reader, but each time I would get an error message saying that it wasn't able to configure properly and then would go to a black screen with white numbers at the top left that would countdown and the system would then load.
I tried to fix this through various small troubleshooting options that I saw online but none worked. So I saw a suggestion to disable firewall (I use Norton 360) while doing the install. I disabled it.
Then in the Windows Update Center I selected the automatic updates and instead of showing the Explorer 7 security update it showed a service pack (I believe it was two, I didn't write it down). I selected to update it, and everything went smoothly at first. Then when restarting it went to the same black screen with white letters.
Now the computer won't start normally at all. The white letters get to a countdown which reads "!! 0xc0190036!! 2870/53510 (security-Licensing-SLC-Component-SKU-Home...)."
I have attempted starting in safe mode "Startup Repair". This takes me to a scan to diagnose and repair the problem. I have run the scan three times and each time it has been unsuccessful in repairing the issue.
I really don't know what to do to fix this. Any suggestions will be most appreciated.
Thanks again!
Corinna
