uninstall vs delete

I have uninstalled programs before and I thought they were gone. Then something would happen and I would do a system restore. When I did there are the program (s) I thought I uninstalled. So how does one permanently delete/uninstall programs completely? I was under the assumption that if you uninstalled something it was deleted. Is this not so. Thanks.

Once you run an uninstaller there may be bits and bobs left in the registry that need tidied up a little. Use Ccleaner after you uninstall a program to fix those broken registry problems. As far as them reappearing when you do a system restore they should reappear because they were there when the restore point was created...this means that the restore point is working correctly.

If you delete it it should be gone period, no matter if you use a restore point or not. Isn't that the point of deleting something, not having it come back. This just does not add up for me. So If I delete something and later down the road I have to use a system restore why should it reappear if you have deleted it. How can I permanently delete something so as it does not reappear?

If you choose a restore point "after" you uninstall/delete a program it should reappear if you use that restore point.

There are basically 2 reason's behind that. 1) When you uninstall any program windows would automatically create a restore point for that. (just in case anything goes wrong). 2) When you install a program, the program would create a registry entry which would state that the program was / is there on the system. And when you do a system restore it comes back.

You should always use uninstall. For the simple fact that some programs store settings in the registry which using the delete method wouldnt remove.

Some uninstallers do leave files behind. They even leave registry settings behind in some cases. In these cases just remove the files that are left after the uninstallation.
