Hello, my Toshiba laptop has Microsoft Office install in the factory. Can I uninstall Microsoft Office to get more disk space?
Thank you, alanrr

Yes if it is installed on the Partition you are using yes, You can also Uninstall the 60 day trial if you get that but if you want to Uninstall it from the Recovery Partition then that is a different story and it is best if you don't because it is very Hard and can mess up your Whole recovery Partition

Hope This Helps,
Josh

To use Programs and Features to uninstall, go to Start / Control Panel / Programs and Features and scroll to the Office (or any other) program you want to uninstall and right click on the program and then click on uninstall or remove (the option presented varies with different programs but is the same). That normally works, but sometimes it doesn't or has problems or leaves remnants behind (especially with Office) - so I offer the following two alternatives.

If uninstall doesn't work (or if you prefer), try the alternative method in the following article: How do I uninstall the 2007 Office suites if I cannot uninstall it by using the "Add or Remove Programs" feature?.

If that too doesn't work, download, install and run Revo Revo Uninstaller Freeware - free software download and software review - uninstall and clean-up utility from SnapFiles and use the Advanced option to fully uninstall the program. Personally, I use Revo in Advanced mode to uninstall EVERYTHING I want to uninstall (other than installed updates where it doesn't work) because it almost always finds additional things that the normal uninstall program missed and helps to keep the system and registry cleaner.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

Revo Uninstaller Pro (rev. 2.4.1 current) is fantastic. To verify leftovers (to add to prev. post,) click on "Forced Uninstall," and navigate to C:\ProgramFiles, etc., and locate the MSO program file. Note: If you're performing any Advanced Uninstall process, make sure you're reading what the checkboxes say. Even the most reliable programs can, at times, tag incorect software.

If leftovers are stuck in your Add or Remove Programs (appwiz.cpl / Control Panel) list, the "Windows Installer Cleanup Utility" / aka msicuu2.exe/msizap.exe is no longer published. Send me a private message, as I archived this (may be on my profile.)

Another way to remove erroneous .msi entries is to use Piriform's freeware CCleaner and to "logoff" (delete the entry," but if you're not using Elevated Priveleges, you may get a "cannot delete MSI installer" edit.

I thought I'd also mention that, if you have additional bloatware (which, having just bought a Dell Studio laptop, I'm always stuck with myself,) that programs like the Activation Assistant for Microsoft Office may need to be uninstalled in a certain order, as so that they don't "resist" being removed. Ideally, you'll want to start with the add-on-type stuff first, and ultimately remove Office last.

Some stuff may want to be left behind, such as a "Compatibility Pack for 2007 Office Systems," say if you have or plan to run MSO 2003. I personally like 2003: Simple, easy to use, no fancy schmancy clicking around. However, the usual .doc (MS Word) files aren't what others use. If someone emails me a 2007 Office or 2010 Office (MS Word) document, it could be, for example, a .docx format!

FileFormatConverters.exe (that CompatbilityPack) hotfix I mentioned earlier fixes that and lets you read both easily. However, note that you may be stuck getting offered WindowsUpdates that correspond with MSO 2007 as well! You can always right-click on anything like that and choose to hide it, but it's recommended to not omit anything security (vulnerability)-related.

Hopefully this 2-cents helps... I've personally been through a lot of guff w/ preloaded MSOffice programs, especially versions one can't even use without a product key!

Without needing to download Microsoft intellectual property - even if discontinued - without permission (which I strongly suggest against for a variety of reasons and recommend not offering if you carefully read Rule #9 in the Forum Rules: http://www.vistax64.com/general-discussion/118651-forum-rules-please-read.html), you can still get the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility at: Download Windows Installer CleanUp Utility 2.5.0.1 Free - Remove Windows Installer configuration information on failed installs - Softpedia. I've used it myself and it works; however, it can cause problems - some quite serious (which was why it was removed by Microsoft in the first place) so use it at your own risk and I recommend you first create a System Restore point, backup the registry, and do the most complete or full backup you are capable of doing before you commence. But read up on it first so you know why it may be useful and when it may be useful - there are often safer solutions to related problems (and you'll find them if you search VF for Windows Installer Problems or maybe just Windows Installer).

Although Revo Pro does offer more options and support than the free version, I suggest that for most users the free version is perfectly adequate (see link in my prior post) and will do the job - I've been using it for some time and have rarely been faced with a problem it did not solve (and, as I said, I use it instead of uninstall in every case where it will work). But use the Advanced Mode with caution as mentioned above because it does sometimes offer suggested deletions that are not appropriate and should be ignored - this occurred recently to me and had I followed the recommendations I would have uninstalled all the registry entries for Windows Media Player along with what I was intending to uninstall.

While CCleaner CCleaner - Optimization and Cleaning - Free Downloadis highly recommended (no need to pay for the version with priority support - the free version is perfectly acceptable), don't go overboard (used without restraint and caution, it can "clean" files you most certainly do NOT want deleted - so choose wisely) and don't do so too often (once a month or every two months for normal users is fine if you are using Disk Cleanup using: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/76073-disk-cleanup.html and Disk Optimzation: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Optimize-Windows-Vista-for-better-performance on a regular basis. Another good product for keeping your system clean is Temporary File Cleaner (see the following permalink: http://www.vistax64.com/system-security/284475-two-minor-security-questions.html#post1296222 for more information).

I hope this helps and provides some additional clarfication.

Good luck!
