Unfamiliar territory - IE passwords

Hi,
I'm new to this forum and also to this format so I hope I can find my way around. I recently puchased a new laptop and unfortunately had to get Vista or it would have cost me more (for XP), and I am not happy with it, am not happy with the things I've heard, and I'm having a difficult time learning it. Every day I have a new question and sometimes more than one a day. lol the problem I'm having now is that IE (7) is not saving all of my passwords. I mistakenly put the wrong password in a forum I've belonged to for quite some time and of course I was prompted to ask if I wanted to save it and I answered yes, not realizing it was wrong. Well, now, every day I type in my "correct" password and I'm told it's wrong because IE is remembering the incorrect password and not prompting me after I put in the correct one.

I hope I can find this thread again after I send this off.

Hi linda,

Welcome to the Forum.

Open Internet explorer Select Tools, Internet options, A new window will appear, Under the General tab, Browsing history select delete, a new window will open select delete Passwords and then YES

This will delete all stored passwords allowing you to start again

If you have a lot of passwords that you would like to keep whilst only deleting the one incorrect item

Have a look at the IE PassView v1.15 from Nirsoft.

Read the instructions on the page to be sure that you understand the program download and run to remove individual passwords

Thank you, Pooch and Barman. I know I can delete the saved passwords but then I would have to remember them or request them all over again. lol I have a terrible memory. I do have them written down someplace but I forget where. lol As for the link you provided, Barman, I don't understand instructions well, which is why I joined a help group, so I can drive people crazy asking and asking questions until I understand it. lol I will, however, check out that link and see if maybe I can wrap my brain around it. Shouldn't IE be asking me each time I put in a new password if I want to save it, like XP did? It isn't doing that and twice I've gone to my Earthlink web mail and had to put in my ID and password again and I shouldn't have to do that. Also, it won't save my password here, but I know some sites it doesn't save (for some odd reason, i.e. Facebook).

IE PassView doesn't require any installation process or additional DLLs. In order to start using it, just copy the executable file (iepv.exe) to any folder like, and run it. After running iepv.exe, IE PassView scans all Internet Explorer passwords in your system, and display them on the main window.

As far as I know Internet Explorer automatically saves the passwords there will be somewhere in the options to change this, more I can not say as I do not use Internet explorer.

When you download this file you will get a zip file right click on this file and select extract to, the extracted file is called iepv.exe.
Right Click on a free space on your desktop, select New and then Folder.
A folder will appear on your desktop, as soon as it appears type a name for the folder and press enter.
You can now drag the file iepv.exe. over to the new folder, by left clicking on the file (keep the click held) and moving your mouse.
When the folder is highlighted let go of the mouse and the file will be placed in the folder.
Now open the folder and left click twice on this file.

I try not to store passwords on my system.
I have got an A4 sheet with all the passwords on it along with other info I have compiled for my wife.
If the pc has a bad day and decides it does not want to get out of bed then all your stored passwords will be in trouble, having them written down is the best type of backup you can get.

I really don't want to download the PassView thing. What I'm really asking is if this is a glitch or not? I save my passwords because it's easy for me and I live alone. I can always write (and have) to whichever company/group I need to if I forget a password. So, is it a glitch that IE is not prompting me again for the password when I put in a different one than is stored? Is it a glitch that it won't save it here?

Follow these screen prints

1. Click on tools internet explorer and select internet options in the dropdown menu.



2.In the new window click on content tab and select setting on auto complete



3. Check whether the prompt me to save password is checked. If no check the box(put a tick mark) give ok.

Hi Delphin,
Thank you so much for the screen shots. I hope you didn't go to all that trouble just for me. I know how to save my passwords in IE. One of the first things I did when I got this laptop last week was make sure that was checked in "Auto Complete." That is not my problem. My problem "was" that I had typed in an incorrect password in one of my groups and IE saved it so that every day when I logged on I was told my the group that it was the wrong password. Finally, this morning, when my auto complete finished, I deleted the password, put in the correct one, and I finally got the prompt I wanted about it being a different password and did I want to save it. I said yes, of course, and now it's fixed.
