Unable to open microsoft internet browser

Windows Vista 32bit - I uninstalled IE9 as I needed to revert to IE8 in order to be compatible with a remote access system for work. I seem to have uninstalled it, but now the IE opens briefly as a blank page and then closes. I've tried installing IE8 again, but keep getting the message that there is a newer version already on the laptop. Any ideas?

Go back to the original IE9 with a sytem restore. Then post and we will try to install 8 the correct way.

Thanks for the advice. Have tried system restore, but it wont complete.
