Unable to get into my computer !

I am using windows vista ultimate 32 bit.

Here is my problem- I was notified that windows updates are ready to be installed so I installed them. It was Windows service pack1 it didn't complete there was an error message 700706BE . I restarted my computer and I have not been able to get into Windows at all. I get a message saying that one of my files is corrupted.

Here is the problem- I downloaded the upgrade windows vista ultimate from a website I did not purchase the disc it was downloaded and installed.

My question- will purchasing a visa ultimate from Microsoft help me with this problem ? Or can someone guide me in the right direction ?

Do you own a valid legal product key number for that edition of Vista?

Thank you for your replyI do have a legal validate product key being that I am a paraplegic unfortunately it was stored on my computer with all my other important information. I thought it would be easier to upgrade my computer by downloading the software and install it rather than wait for the CD through the mail. But I know now !

I ordered the software from Microsoft and hopefully it should be here within the next couple of days. Hopefully I can get into my computer without losing my information.

If your old computer is still intact, then you may be able to pull your product key number off it if you do not otherwise have it. The program in this tutorial will help show you how to.

Hello Bluedog,

one other thing you can try, to recover the original product key, is to contact your on-line supplier to see if they will provide you with this info from their records. also If you paid by credit card the key may be shown as a part of the identification of the transaction.
