Unable to boot Vista

I accidentally wrote grub 2 on windows vista and recovery partition while getting grub menu back after installing windows 8 (as it removes the grub). I tried reinstalling windows 8, thinking that it would reinstall boot manager as well, so I formatted the windows 8, but the installation stops at 31% and gives error 0x80070570 "Windows cannot install required files. The files may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x80070570". Though I used same setup earlier to install windows 8 successfully. Then I created a bootable vista pen drive and ran fixboot and fixmbr commands. Now grub has been removed from the boot files of Vista and recovery, but still I cannot boot Vista. It shows a black screen with a cursor blinking on the top left. I ran chkdsk command as well and it didn't give any errors. When I use startup repair tool through bootable drive, it says OS booted successfully. But I am not able to boot.
What should I do?

You may have to rebuild the master boot record
Here is how

Start the computer in safe mode with command prompt
Open command prompt and Type C: and press enter
at the C:\ prompt type cd boot
At the C:\Boot prompt type the following and press enter after each
bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /rebuildBcd
Close command prompt and resart your computer in normal mode.

I can't even boot in the safe mode. I have tried these commands using bootable vista pen drive, and nothing happened. When I use the ScanOs command or RebuildBcd command, it gives me this message:
Total identified windows installations: 0
The operation completed successfully.

But it recognizes Vista (and windows 8, though I have formatted it) when I select "repair PC" option in the bootable pendrive.
