UAC Icon Fix

Since having Vista, I always had UAC off. Recently, I tested it in quiet mode and didn't like it. After turning UAC off, I'm getting the security icon in the corner of some of my desktop shortcuts now:

How can I get rid of these?

Hello Hyphen, and welcome to Vista Forums.

I'm sorry, but you cannot remove these. The shield icon overlay represents that file will require UAC approval when opened.

Sorry,
Shawn

Can I turn UAC back on and give these programs proper approval and then turn UAC off to remove them? Is there a way I can reset all UAC permissions as if I never turned UAC on in the first place?

I looked for that as well and couldn't find solution, so I did it myself.

Modify imageres.dll.
Just clear UAC icon, make it transparent (and Shortcut overlay at one shot, I hate the other icon as well).
A side effect is that admin icon is missing in context menu, where "Run as Administrator" command is. Personally I can live with it!
You may need to enter safety mode and use specific tools to do the job. Works in Vista and Win7.

This way you do not put the system at risk by switching UAC off!
