two problems maybe related

I have two problems but i think that they are connected. When my computer starts up i see the blue hp invent screen for about a minute and then it goes to the screen with the bar at the bottom. It takes about a minute before the green bar starts to move and then it takes about two minutes for it to start going normally. After this it starts up normally. While the time doesn't bother me that much, when it starts up like this my dvd drive isn't recognized. On a normal startup it takes about 30 seconds for it to be fully loaded and the dvd drive is recognized.

I thought that the slow startup may be because of one of my start up programs but i started up in safe mode and it still took a long time. It used to take a long time very rarely but here for the past week it happens almost every time. My computer is a HP, amd phenom quad core, with vista home 64 bit.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Sounds like you got frag (default defrag isnt very good), integrity violations, or disk/file attribute errors.

Try this to scan for and fix. (do all the steps)

before full defrag command [defrag c: -w] scan for system file integrity issues [sfc /scannow]

this is driving me crazy ....my computer loaded up about 5 times perfect and then right back to the way it was...i tried all the steps above and the only problem i had was 5 files called windows sidebar that were corrupted...but what doesn't make sense to me is sometimes it will boot up fine which makes me belive its something small...i've only had this computer about 6 months so its really frustrating me.... any ideas would be welcomed

Sidebar are Windows components.

You performed a disk check and a system file check? Another option may be a system restore to undo the corruption or a re-install of Vista.

Have you used registry cleaners/optimizers on this computer?

the only thing i have used is auslogic registry defrag but that was just two days ago ...i thought it may fix the problem

all the files that are corrupted are windows sidebar ...is there any way to just reinstall windows sidebar to fix these files...or do you even think that this would be the cause
