TST DVD RW TS-L632H wont work

I have had problems with this DVD RW ever since my son installed i Tunes on my Dell laptoop. I have fixed it once before with the help of someone from a forum by going into the registry and setting something back to normal. Now I cant find the piece of paper I printed off in case it happened again and I cant find the original post on how to fix it.
It is not a driver problem even though it looks like one in the device manager. I am not very technically minded but I can do basic stuff with help.
If anyone has had this problem and found a non-driver based solution I would be grateful for your help.
