Trying to run Windows 95 game on Vista

:shock:I am trying to run British Open Championship Golf/ Looking Glass Technologies 1997 ( I have the 2 disc set )...Shipped with Active Movie 1.0 System requirement Windows 95 w/ DirectX 3.0 Min Pentium 60 Mhz ...Picture freezes. Also an AppHangB1 error. I did try to run game in "Windows 95" compatability mode with no luck.

I run a HP a6120n Intel Core2 [email protected] Ghz
Vista Home Premium 32 bit
Memory 3070 Mb DDR2 PC2 5300
NVIDEA GeForce 7300GT
Realtek onbard audio HD

I see there is good help running DOS games ( DosBox, etc. )
Of course, I am unable to use Virtual PC and load Windows 95
My Windows XP laptop runs the game just fine
I am considering installing a Creative SB X-Fi sound card,
or CPU shareware slow down utility

Any ideas? Thank you!!

Running a piece of software that old is not guaranteed to work unless you are willing to go digging. The problem here, like a lot of old Windows 95 software is that it could've needed direct access to DOS. Obviously in Windows Vista, that option is not available since Windows Vista is a Windows NT operating system with a limited DOS emulator.

I could attempt to run utilizing "DosBox" or I could upgrade my version of Vista to one that I could take advantage of "Virtual PC." Of course I would have to purchase Windows XP or earlier ... not sure yet what to do.

Bypassed installed video card and used onboard video. No luck. Next I might try "vdm audio" and see if the audio driver onboard is the issue. I doubt it. I think it is directX 10.0 or Vista. Dosbox seems a little complicated. I do not know if BOCG is native Dos or 100% Windows 95.

I had already installed the program and had the program icon on my desktop. I right clicked on the icon and choose properties, then compatability. At this point I just experimented until I got the right adjustments right. Good luck!
