Trouble obtaining Service Pack 2

Okay, to start off my OS is Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit.

Now let me not skimp on the details. I recently downloaded and installed Service Pack 1 to my computer and everything went off without a hitch. When I look at my OS, it says Service Pack 1 below it which I assume means everything's okay. With that said, I wanted to go ahead and download Service Pack 2.

And here is where the flip hits the fan.

I run it as an administrator and it says it's preparing my computer to install but then it says, "Installation is unsuccessful. Try restarting your computer..." Did it. "...close any running programs..." Did that. "...and then try installing again." ...which I did, again.

Upon looking farther it says that I'm receiving an error 0x80070005. Apparently this has something to do with administrative powers, but I AM the administrator, I HAVE power. So I have no idea why this error would even bother coming up.

I tried talking to a friend of mine to check any updates that I may be missing, but when I go to the Windows Updater and Check for Updates, it says that My Windows is up to date which is almost impossible because if it was, then the Service Pack 2 would be installing. Can someone please tell me what to do to solve this problem? I've been at this for a day with no solutions in sight.

I tried launching it under the Windows Updates (as seen by the bottom portion of my post *sigh*) but it always says that My Windows is Up to Date which is why I'm having this problem in the first place. If I could merely launch it under the Windows Update I probably wouldn't be making this post at all. I've persistently clicked Check for Updates for the past day with the same result, so no dice there.

I'll try your method Flavius and post here the results if any.

That is your best bet. I tell you now that Flavius is absolutely incredible at these Windows Update issues, and he will be able to sort you out :)

Have you even Found the Service pack on the Web,

Microsoft took the Update of windows Update in May 2010

You can now find it on Microsoft Website

For the 32-Bit See Download details: Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 and Windows Vista Service Pack 2 - ALL Language Standalone (KB948465) For more information

Many Thanks,
Josh

Why would they do that? That's why the OP couldn't find it under Windows updates.

Gosh, Windows Service Pack 3 is still available for XP users.

I was lucky enough to find a Vista Home Premium SP2 ISO, so I won't ever have to install SP1,SP2....Wasting hours!:mad:

Thank God, for Windows 7.

I am not quite sure what has caused the confusion, but Microsoft has NOT pulled the service pack off Windows Update, and will have no plans to do so. The only thing that has happened is that for some users a bug has caused it not to be shown. As far as I know...

"Did you ever know that you're my herrroooo~?"

Flavy...I love you...so very much right now. XD I used the second option and reset security to default. Afterward I clicked Check my Updates and lo and behold, 1 Important Update was shown and it was the Service Pack 2 which is now in the midst of installation.

Thanks a bunch guys! I really appreciate all your responses! :3 ^^ Now to switch this to solved and I'll be a happy person.

As far as i can tell, the bug can affect people who have a straight Vista install... If you have a Vista SP1 install, Winupdate finds it.

I've seen this on 2 myself, and helped a few others on it.
