Trouble accessing websites.

I haven't been able to access the following sites on my laptop. Descriptions of the problems is included.

-Tumblr (Since October of 2009)

Cant access the site on my laptop. I can on my desktop though.

-Myspace (Since June of 2009)

I cant access the site. With a proxy yes. I crashed my desktop previously by use of a proxy so I really would like to not use one again.

-Facebook (Since Mid-January of 2009)

My inability to access face book has been a reoccurring cyclical problem for me, and it tends to dissapear for three weeks, then reappear for one. This problem was present on my desktop before I got my laptop.

-----

My laptop is a HP Pavilion dv6 with Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit.
My desktop is Windows XP (crashed twice)

I am not an obsessive user of the sites listed above. I use them to keep in contact with family and old friends.

I am the administrator on my laptop, and the only one who uses it.

My virus protection software is the newest version of Norton.

YES I have tried deleting the cache and cookies in my browsers, turning off the firewall, and tried command prompt and received no error messages. There are no blocked sites on my laptop.

I have tried Google Chrome, Safari, IE 7&8, and Firefox. NOTHING WORKS.

The error message that I receive is either unknown error, or "[insert browser] cannot access this webpage]".

Maybe someone can finally help me, I have read, and tried all of the advice given for similar topics, and since it hasn't worked, I thought it would be best to post my own thread and see if someone can unravel the mystery.

ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Hi and welcome

If you try to access those sites, what error message do you get, or does the page just not load?

Hi!

Here are the responses that I have been getting (organized by web browser).

Firefox-Does nothing. Stays on current page. Will not attempt to access the sites at all.

Safari- For all three sites it states that Safari cant open the page, the error is unknown error (kCFErrorDomainWinSock:10014)

Google Chrome-States that the web page is unavailable.

Ie- Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.

IN IE8 the Compatibility View button might solve some of all of your problem. I had a similar problem and all I had to do when a website did not display properly (or at all) was hit the Compatibility View button. After that, I went ahead and changed my Compatibility View settings, so that I never have the problem any more.

Your one problem has various solutions. Here are some possible remedies. In addition I would try. Downloading and running malwarebytes.
Malwarebytes.org

Furthermore, you may want to go to tools>internet options>advanced>reset. This will bring your browser back to its original state, with no addons. You may want to set system restore, first.

Run a complete antivirus scan.
Try with the antivirus turned off.

I sincerely wish you good luck in resolving this problem

Thanks. :)

I clicked on the links, and tried everything. But nothing is working, and now www.youtube.com is added to the list of things I cant access.

I am at the point where I am ready to just wipe my computor clean and start all over again.

Do not rush to uninstall, this is something that we should be able to correct. Here are a list of things to try:

BleepingComputer.com > Can't Access Secure Sites

Just a shot in the dark:

Make sure your computer time and date are correct
Try with anti virus off
Go to tools, internet options, security, trusted sites and list a few of the problem sites
sites and see if that works.
Try setting up a new account, even the guest account will do, and try the sites.

I really want this to work for you.
