how can I make it the default mail for me . I went to programs and click on widowsmail and there was no check box

Easy to make it your default program. Just do the following:
1. Click the "start" button (orb on bottom left of your screen)
2. Click "Default Programs
3. Click on "Windows Mail" and then click on "set as default"
You're all done now and Windows Mail is now your default email program.
