I have lenovo Y550 laptop with vista home premium installed in it. Recently I tried installing many CD/DVD emulator softwares like 'daemon tools' and 'Win CD emulator' which din't worked in my 64 bit system, so I uninstalled them. After this everytime when I triy accessing my pendrive my system just hangs:mad:. So, I installed Microsoft's 'fix it' software. It said that there is some problem with some 'APFB3097 IDE controller' and that it can't repair it. When I opened Device manager I saw that driver under storage controller menu. I tried to search about this driver in google but din't got any help.
One thing I observed is that, the code which appears before IDE controller is random. It keeps on changing sometimes. Also when I am in safe mode it vanishes and my all my pendrives work as well.
Plz help me with this problem.
Thanks,
Chetan

Hello Chetan0231,
There are a couple of things to try.
First, re-install your chipset drivers. You can get these at your manufacturers site.

If that does not fix it, follow this tutorial, you may need to run it a few time to repair any damaged files.

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/66978-system-files-sfc-command.html

Failing all of these, you can try a system restore to a point, before this started happening.
Hope some of this helps, good luck and post your results.

Hi Stoneys-nutz,
I tried installing chipset driver but that was of no use. I repaired files using SFC command, but the problem still exits. Also I have tried restoring my system many a times, but that problem won't go.:(
I have attached an image of device manager, u can see that driver below storage controller and its properties on the right window. There's an exclaimation mark on that driver which denotes that there's some problem with it.

Try this and see if it can fix your problem. I found it on another site by "GoneToPlaid".

First, create a system restore point so you can undo the following changes.
Reboot into Safe Mode and go into Device Manager. In Device Manager, be sure to click on "Show hidden devices" under View.

Delete the entries for the various USB stick drives which are listed and then close Device Manager. If you get a popup that you need to Restart to complete the changes, cancel for now.

Launch Windows Explorer, navigate to the C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch directory and delete everything in it.
Don't delete the directory itself, just the stuff in it.

Now you can reboot your computer. Note that this reboot will take some time since Windows will need to rebuild the contents of the Prefetch directory, but at least now the Prefetch directory will now only contain data entries for whatever actual hardware and boot-loaded software that currently actually is in your computer.
