Hey Guys so this happened to my laptop the other day and I have only got round to fixing it now, I tried a few options like editing the .bak files etc with no luck so I recovered what I could and just deleted the user profile an that seemed to of fixed the issue.
I was just wondering if their is anyway to delete the data off the old user user profile without having to format the hard drive. As its still taking up space on my hard drive even though the profile is deleted.
Since you have already deleted the user account through the Control Panel, you should be able to just delete C:\Users\(user-name) folder for the old user account while logged in the new account.
Hey thanks for the welcome and reply, I tried looking in the C drive and the only users are the current(new user profile) temp and public but no sign of the old user profile
If "temp" is your new profile folder, then technically it isn't since it's only a temporary account setup since your other old one was corrupted. I would recommend to create a new administrator user account, copy what you want from temp to the new one, then delete temp to recover the space.
Sorry I should probably explain fully before posting, just desperately trying to get it sorted as I have no space left on my hard drive. I already created a new administrator user account whilst I had my old administrator user account and then deleted the old one and need accesses to the old user account desktop etc as the majority of the space is being taken up by folders on the desktop of that account but im only able to accesses the old files using the likes of file scavenger (used to back up files before deleting the account ) Sorry again if im going in circles here im pretty much a novice here
Nope still no luck with it, I have been recommended to use Ccleaner by my local computer repair shop to remove the hidden files....Hopefully it works. Thanks again for your help
Hey well I tried Ccleaner an still have no luck finding the old user files, the computer shops recomending formating the whole thing for me @ £80/$125 which really is not a option as im only a student
What, you can backup your data and reinstall for free yourself if you wanted to. What brand and model is your laptop? I'll see if I can find the instructions for you on how to do a factory recovery/restore for you laptop to reinstall Vista.
