True, I suppose. The reason is that they have been around for so long, and no one has really confronted or challenged it with solid scientific proof (to my knowledge).

the bible is fact and has thousands of original documents thousands of years old to back it up

I'm going to throw this out: The Bible is NOT fact. Now, don't get me wrong. I am absolutely NOT attacking faith of any kind. All I am saying is that there is as much proof for and against the Bible as there is for these theories. All I can say is that one day, I hope we know the truth.
But if what some faith believe is truth, I fear we will never know.

I have never been one to blindly believe whatever some faith says. Which is why I am not religious.

As for God, I do believe in God. It is my right as it is for anyone not to believe, it is called free will! For those who do not believe you might ask yourself what if you are wrong? Just a thought!
Faith goes well here as you have to wonder is there life beyond earth. I just can't believe that we are the only living things with free will in all the voids of space. That would make us all the biggest mistake of every planet that ever was or will be. Take a look at this world and it is not hard to figure out.........what intelligent creature would ever want to be here? Look how we treat each other so how much worse would we treat another being from some other place? You don't have to be intelligent to see that. How many of you actually know your neighbors on the block you live? There was a time when the entire block sat outside and communicated with out computers. The technology we all share and enjoy has been moving much faster and yet it has been held back intentionally for profit. Every bit of technology has been somehow twisted toward our own destruction first. I do not have any proof one way or the other about any of this but for myself I do believe in God and that we are not alone. The only proof I do have is that ALL governments have lied and withheld secrets to the public. Now that is a FACT!

This reminds me a fabulous film I watched back in 78or79, it was Elliott Gould starred "Capricorn One".
Whether it is true or not, the expedition to the Moon has given us many by products such as baby foods, bi-cycle helmet shock absobers and many more everyday items.
I was amazed to hear that the module which landed on the Moon had 64kb memory.

Never thought about it. I always hated Literary Analysis, because I could never see the symbology.

I will go with, I am sure there were underlying reasons as to why he wrote exactly what he did, but none of us here could ever know what all of them were.

Oh I see what you mean. Well, after being translated many, many times, as well as being hand copied, and so on, so it would NOT be exactly the same.

I know the same happened with the Bible, and any work that has been around that long. Nothing can survive being hand copied and hand translated for hundreds of years without being altered.

I saw an interesting take on it on tv recently. They wanted to know if something passed down verbally for centuries, then written down, contains the same information or is it distorted ? The found some who still sing/speak centuries old sagas of thousands of lines. I believe it was in Turkey. The researcher found little changed in the spoken sagas in comparison to thos sagas that had been written down.

I discussed the possible transcription changes in the Christian Bible with several people last year. In the Talmud writing, there is someone for who checks the written with previous written and rejects any page that has mistakes.

However, the King James I version of the Christian Bible has a number, I don't have a list, of alterations that were introduced to accomidate the prejudices of that Royal Court.

for the Bible there are 24,000 for just the new testament with very few alterations between them the are 99% the same...... all 24,000!

Interesting read. I didn't read the entire thing, but I read most of it.

I will point this out: Just because all of them are very similar, that does not mean it is fact! For instance, if you were to search for something on the internet, you might find 1000 stories of a myth, all very similar. But none true.
I am not saying that the Bible is false, I am just pointing that out.

Now, people tend to revere their holy artifacts, as well as their faith. For the Bible, whoever believed in it would no doubt take care of it. So all those monks that copied down all those manuscripts would have them all very similar. Aside from the obvious spelling or wording mistake.

My point is that just because something is very popular, well known, and similar all over the world, does not make it true!
Keep in mind here, I am not trying to say there is no god or whatever. Just pointing out that I can't just blindly believe the Bible is fact.
