TFGHT_ vista won't boot

help,I did a check disc and when i tried to turn on today after that,it says"TFGHT is compressed,hit contl-alt-del to restart. Then it just loops over and over. I tried to get in safe mode and do a system restore,but it will not budge from the cycle its on. Is this fried or what? Any idea how to repair? Its a vista ultimate 32 bit,Asus motherboard,intel pentium 3.3 gz. 1 gb ram,nvidia card and sbxfi sound. Anyone know what to do? thanks,i'm no pro,but know this looks bad. thanks

Follow the one above, as it provides more information for the first few steps in particular, but after that, you may prefer the layout of this one:

WOW Thanks,it worked. I am no computer whiz,but i can read and followed your instructions and it saved that computer. It was a battle,but i slew the dragon,with your sword. vista was restored. You the man,many respects. I can't ever return the favor,but I deeply thank you.

You are most welcome. For some strange reason, Vista feels that when you compress the Hard Drive, it should compress EVERYTHING, including the Boot Manager, which is required not to be compressed. Really helpful.
