If you can get into the advanced boot menu, this tutorial shows how to:

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/88009-advanced-boot-options.html

Try using Last Known Good.

It's a good idea to use ERUNT
ERUNT and NTREGOPT

in addition to restore point. It just backs up the registry.
It may not be malware. Could be your system font got changed to some weirdy outline font.
Anyway, post back if you can't do Last Known Good.

If you can, it's a good idea to back up your system partition, registry and also have battery backup. If the situation should arise again then you'd only be reverting to the last image backup. If you make a couple a week, then you only lose a few days of modifications. Restore is a matter of booting the restore disc, then running the program to copy the image file back over the system partition. Depending how large your system partition files are, it can take less than an hour.

Also it's cool because once you test it and know it works, you can do stuff like try a new OS and if you don't like it, put the old image back on. Sometimes it's easier just to put an image you know works back on than to try to figure out what went wrong.

Macrium Reflect Free and Easus ToDo are a couple of good free image backup apps. You can find a list on www.thefreecountry.com
