Task bar disapearing (sort of) after monitor unplug

Hi gang,
I've been having an issue where my task bar becomes invisible. I can roll over it and get the open program previews, and any info off the system tray but I can't see what it is I am rolling over. All there is is a line where the top of where the task bar should be. I auto hide the task bar by the way.

Last night I figured out the issue and thought I had it licked. It seems to happen when I disconnect the monitor from my notebook. I thought it was happening because I was leaving the monitor on when disconnecting it but that doesn't seem to be the case. Tonight, I turned the monitor off, waited a few seconds, unplugged it my notebook screen goes dark for a second then "abracadabra-shala-bazoom" the taskbar vanishes (sort of)

Any ideas?

Hello Dean.

This is an interesting problem, but then most are.

My first thought is to try disabling Aero, and see if the problem persists.
