Solved System Restore :D

Is there anyway to start up the restore of a system that is on Drive D other than F11?
I was able to install Windows XP Pro and it runs fine.
However I feel the Bios is bad as when you power up those options for boot sequence and system restore appear but then the screen is frozen for time and then it brings the xp system.
I have downloaded an upgrade to the bios which is the same rel that came with the motherboard and wondering if I ran that exe from the running xp system if it might correct the bios? I need to have Vista installed and I can't get into setup to switch them as it appears that it is always going to the HDD first.

thank you.

F11 will not function during boot.
I looked on line and it says to use F10
Change the boot option after that to what you need

In Control Panel, System, Advanced System Settings, Advanced, Startup and Recovery, Settings, System Startup, checkmark the box Time to display list of operating systems. When you boot, it will display the operating systems and give you the option to choose one or the other.

Thank you for the help. this morning we are first going to try and run MalwareBytes. Then there is a Microsoft article KB927392 run in the windows recovery environment that speaks to startup issues to repair MBR, Boot sector, and boot config. The recovery in D is for Vista which originally was on the box and right now windows 7 seems to function rather well except for the running of setup and Recovery. The dumps that we sent to Malware showed no sign of malware but we were advised to download the latest program and files and with our registry key run the program again. We did a clean install of Windows 7 and at the start reformatted the C drive. I would have thought at that time the MBR and startup would have been recreated?

For this all to work, you have to install XP first and then Vista. I'm not sure if that's the scenario here from what you mentioned.

Good morning wither 3
This morning we are going to try several things. One is that we have a exe program that will allow us to change the D drive to active and perhaps it will boot and we can do recovery from that and restore the system.
the second thing is that we were able to download from Digital River the Vista ISO with sp1 and create the install program from the three files they have you download. then it had sp2 and IE9 to also download and we are to add them as soon as the system is up and also the key we have from the original system we can enter or call Microsoft on the phone and do the registration. that way.
we never did get you last suggestion to work that showed what systems were installed when booting up.
we are now able to use F10 and set up the boot sequence. Also we found the bios battery was way low and installed a new one and that seemed to reset the bios.
will keep you up on what the outcome.

We were successful in making the partition D active and it did boot to it. Was able to run the restore to factory settings and it is up and running and downloading updates.
we also during the process found that there is a problem with memory.
Thank You and everyone else who gave tips and suggestions.
