System Recovery...please help...

My computer has been acting funny for several days (even though I told it to be serious!), anyway, last night, it was running v-e-r-y slow while I was trying to work on it, and then it just automatically rebooted itself. A screen came up that said to perform a System Recovery, so this morning I did the Recovery, but now I've been stuck on this same screen because it wants a password, which I don't know it, nor can I remember it. It's a Dell Inspiron 1525 which I bought from Dell April '08. Is there some way to get a password with having to be charged for Dell's help? I'm thinking of just tossing the laptop in the recycle trashbin, and buying a new brand. Thank you for any advice -

Thank you for the quick response. My laptop is in safe-mode. Here is the message that pops up "Your computer is running in a limited diagnostic state. If you use System Restore in this limited state, you cannot undo the restore operations." How do I get out of safe-mode? I've tried rebooting several times, and sometimes, while rebooting, I've clicked F8 repeatedly, clicked Escape repeatedly, clicked Alt/Tab/Delete, or just slapped it. It always goes back to the same blue screen asking for the password for System Recovery.

Hi.

Have you tried to let it run the restore regardless of the message, if so be sure to use a date before the problems started?

After 9 hours and total frustration, I just decided to take the laptop back to Factory Restore....if all else fails, I'll trash it. Thank you to all who volunteered advice...

Some factory restore operations give you an option to save data to external media so be prepared for that option before you begin.

Shauna; If you decide to file 13 the laptop (trash it), let me know ahead of time. I'm in the market for a good used laptop for the wife. We can work out the the shipping and the cost you want for it. Just PM (personal message) me and maybe we can work something out. I would like the make and model # with all the specs on it. Thanks but I hope you get it in good working order so you don't have to get a new one.
